Beginning with the End

So here I am at the end of 2013 doing something I thought I wouldn't get to until 2014...becoming a producer of internet content. I have long been an avid consumer of information on the internet, but the stars would have to collide in order for me to feel comfortable enough to produce the content that people would search for, react to and read. I don't remember reading about actual stars colliding, but as I begin at the end of this year, let me tell you how I got here.

It all started with a week long training back in July as I became a pilot teacher for my district's chromebook roll out. The incomparable Joe Wood conducted 3 days of digital literacy training, where it took some convincing, but I finally joined Twitter. Long story short, the last 5 months have been the most influential in my growth as an educator, essentially the "stars" collided.

The top 5 events of 2013 - the "stars" colliding
1. The aforementioned digital literacy training
2. Joining Twitter
3. Fall Cue & participating in Iron Cue
4. Having dinner in Napa with a table full of my tweeps (most of which I met that night)
5. Participating in #caedchats

Without any one of these events, this blog would not be happening. Nor would have my passion been reinvigorated. Each of my "stars" involved amazing people, some who are like minded and others who challenge my thinking. This 14 year veteran has begun to rethink just about everything she does in and out of her classroom.

Now what does this mean for me?

1. I am now a producer of content on the internet.
2. I have now joined a global conversation where I share and receive great advice and ideas.
3. I have surrounded myself with supportive people.

What does this mean for me professionally?

1. I will be attending #edcamphome2.0 and #edcampsac on January 4 & 11, 2014.
2. I will start #geniushour on January 17, 2014.
3. I will be attending #PlaydateSJ on February 15. 2014.
4. I will continue to meet new people, share ideas and grow as an educator and a person for that matter.
5. I will continue blogging.

Most of these events are within the first few months of 2014 and would never be happening if the "stars" had not collided. That can only mean that the year holds many great things to come. I look forward to sharing. Expect my next few posts to be on instituting #geniushour and working through my own genius hour project. By beginning with the end of 2013, I can see myself filled with passion and joy as I work with students and adults in our ever evolving educational world.
